37279929 This study explored the relationship between inflammatory blood cell parameters and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) risk during pregnancy. Data from 6,354 pregnant women revealed that increased levels of white blood cells (WBC), neutrophils, monocytes, lymphocytes, and neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) in early pregnancy were significantly associated with higher GDM risk. Similar associations were observed for WBC, neutrophils, monocytes, and NLR in middle pregnancy. Stable high levels of these parameters from early to middle pregnancy were also linked to increased GDM risk. These findings suggest that inflammatory blood cell parameters, particularly WBC, neutrophils, monocytes, and NLR, could serve as useful markers for early identification of individuals at high risk of developing GDM.
